Autumn Budget 2018
This will be the last Budget before the UK is due to leave the European Union on March, 29th next year, although no deal with the EU has yet been reached. The Treasury has been at pains to stress that all spending commitments contained in the Budget are ‘already funded’ irrespective of whether the UK leaves the EU with or without a deal – although the Chancellor had previously warned that leaving without a deal may mean another Budget
The Chancellor got to his feet at 3:33pm and immediately ticked the “hard working families” box. If he said “the hard work of the British people” once in his speech, he said it a dozen times. He was determined to repay the trust of the British people and deliver a Budget for “strivers, grafters and carers.”
