On the 22nd of March 2018, we held an investment outlook event at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel at Gosforth Park. The informal talk was led by Peter Griffin, our Investment Director, and was the first in our series of 2018 Investment Outlook events.
Peter dived straight into his presentation with one of the most talked about political events in the UK – Brexit – a matter of great interest from all of our clients with investments. Whatever your own political stance was about Brexit, future trade agreements will be likely to have some impact on the investing landscape and clients are interested in what will happen to their own investment values. The talk then moved on to other long-term areas of interest, with key talking points around innovations that are changing the way we do business, quantitative easing and changes to UK inflation.
The midpoint of the seminar brought about an overview of how the in-house Investment Team at Gale and Phillipson invest client’s money, with discussions about how each individual portfolio is assessed, and how portfolios are selected specifically to the client’s needs.
Finally, Peter touched on another topical favourite – Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. These new technologies are increasing every day and are generating so much media coverage that you can’t overlook their existence but it was important to discuss the Investment Team’s approach to cryptocurrencies and their volatility as an asset class.
